Members of Congress will need to trim their office budgets by 8.2 percent as a result of the sequester, the chairwoman of the House Administration Committee said today.

“Although sequestration isn’t the ideal way to reduce government spending, it is now the law, and Congress is not, and should not be, immune,” said the chairwoman, Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.). ”To the contrary, we should continue to lead by example and do our part to get this country on a fiscally sustainable path.”

Miller also noted that the GOP-led House has cut members’ budgets by 11 percent over the past two years, not including the sequester.

Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) has announced that she will take an 8.4 percent monthly pay cut as a result of the sequester, in solidarity with others who are bearing the brunt of the cuts.
