Congresswoman Candice Miller: Temporarily suspend visas to west African countries impacted by Ebola

by Candice Miller on October 15, 2014

WXYZ) – U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller told 7 Action News this morning that she intends to ask U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and Secretary of State John Kerry to temporarily suspend visas to people from west African countries impacted by Ebola.

“Certainly it would seem a prudent thing for our country to temporarily suspend the 13,500 visas that are out there from these three impacted countries – stop them from coming into the United States until we understand what precautions we actually have to take,” says Miller.

Miller says that taking this action will temporarily suspend some of the 13,500 visas from people living in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, where the countries have lost thousands of people to the Ebola outbreak.

Miller and Texas Congressman Michael McCaul, who together head the Homeland Security Committee, will send a joint letter later today making this request.
