Protecting Jobs And Getting Our Economy Moving Again
All of us in Southeast Michigan understand that nothing is more important than protecting jobs and getting our economy moving again. And for us that means ensuring that American manufacturing is made stronger and jobs are protected. I will continue to work in Washington to see to it that we enact policies that support the continuation of American manufacturing and the protection of good paying jobs here in Southeast Michigan.
I will also continue to work for lower taxes on small businesses to help them meet their budgets and create new jobs. Additionally, lower taxes on families will help them meet their budgets, educate their children and save for retirement.
During World War II our region was known as the Arsenal of Democracy because we had the industrial capacity to build the weapons that led the world to peace. Since that time we have seen our share of defense dollars shrink and that has been a loss to not only our region, but also to our nation because we have the most productive and innovative workforce in the world. That is why I continue to fight to ensure that Michigan companies and workers have a greater ability to contribute to our defense and national security industries. This will lead to not only good jobs for Michigan citizens, but also will provide great benefit to our nation.
Throughout our nation’s history economic growth has always followed the transportation grid. That is why I am working on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to ensure that our area gets back our fair share of federal tax dollars so that we can fix our crumbling roads and outdated underground infrastructure. I am also working to ensure that we protect and expand our local harbors, which are critical to our tourist economy, and expand our local airports which benefit local industry and create jobs.
I will continue to have a relentless focus on the issues that expand our economy in Michigan and create the jobs we need.
